This is my explanation from a few years back, quoting Dr. Leslie Baumann, for an impaired skin barrier. I find I cannot explain it well sometimes, so here it is!

"I just read "The Skin Type Solution" by Leslie Baumann, M.D. and she said (chapter 15) that the key to managing what sounds like my skin type is understanding the skin barrier (which is the skins natural barrier, composed of cells, like bricks, if you will, that are surrounded by fat or lipids, which act as mortar). "With a weak skin barrier, substances pass through the barrier too readily, producing allergic or inflammatory reactions as the immune system recognizes something foreign to the body and overreacts. Once the skin barrier is damaged, a cycle begins. Lack of protection leads to invasion of substances that cause inflammation; inflammation leads to itching and further breakdown of the barrier. As a result, the skin cannot hold on to water, and dehydration results. Dehydration...

Perioral Derm treatment ups and downs, all advice welcome by loveorbread on Sun Nov 06, 2011 5:13 am
Hi everyone

I'm new to this forum but I'm hoping that it helps me in my current situation.

I've had PD since March of 2011. I was in Japan and they prescribed me a steroid cream to treat what simply seemed like a rash. One week later it came out in full force on my chin and under my nose and between my eyebrows. Since coming back to the states in August, I've been on 100 mg of Minocycline 2x a day for one month, then weaned off of it to 1x a day for a month but recently went back up to 2x a day a few days ago.
I've been using metrogel and elidel since september and 2 weeks ago started on Financea.

It seemed like it was fading for the most part. Minocycline kept acne in check and metrogel and elidel were helping the redness to fade to the point where I could walk around campus and not be so self-conscious.

A few days ago, however, I started getting more mini P&Ps on the sides of my chin and under my nose.

is this from the financea or can hormones play a part? I'm afraid that while...

Update! by RosaceaIsNotFun on Fri Nov 04, 2011 8:56 am
'Gain, excuse my lacking blogging activity, though I can neither gainsay nor deny my future promises, regarding my upcoming peeling sessions.

I am now currently, and have been on Salicylic Acid 2% for approximately 5 weeks. This exact treatment is mainly aspired for acne-like conditions, and that is one of my many many problems (especially on my nose area)...

My dermatologist prescribed me, and recommended (although it from time to time might seem to worsen) me to keep this treatment going for a period of 3-4 months...

She specifically informed 'bout that it will most likely get worse before it gets better, so yeah, I'm still holding on for dare life.
And, Yes, I'm actually seeing some improvement on my nose (area) especially. The redness and acne is (in small entity subsiding! Although, at the same time, my skin is very reactive and warm.

The peel I am awaiting, is a 15 % Salicylic Peel. Though, there is one wee problem. I'm gonna have to wait till the day I turn 18, which...

6th week... In the clear by lynn on Thu Oct 27, 2011 1:18 pm
Sorry my friends i have been super busy but i do want to update that this is the 6th week and i do have to say my face is clear. There is one area between my chin and right cheek that has a very very faint red line. But compared to my initial outbreak that seems like nothing. I am still using the metrogel every evening before bed. I also use cetaphil cleanser & moisturizer for my face. I am in Boston and the weather has turned quite chilly so I am also wondering if the weather changes also improved my condition? I believe it might have. I also completely cut out coffee. I now only drink green tea w 2 splenda. I have continued to diet, I am not eating as much veggies as I was But I am still doin better then before. I also continue to exercise moderately as advised. I do still take fish pills 3x a day as well as take a probiotic daily. Also i try and stay away from spicy foods. I am happy that my face is clear, extremely happy. I know I am probably what is called in remission and I hope...

I'm back! by RosaceaIsNotFun on Fri Oct 14, 2011 6:17 am
So, things didn't turn out quite the way I had expected them too.

Instead of going to the dermatologists office, I will be purchasing it from a 100 % genuine legitimate company that goes by the name "Dermaline AS" (http://www.dermaline.no/). I will surely take certain reservation before diving into the current of "unfamiliar" surroundings.

Though, this will aid both me and you greatly, when I'll be able to go into great depth and detail concerning this whole procedure, and so on.

I will be posting VIDEOS, PHOTOS, USER GUIDANCE, REVIEW, FINAL THOUGHTS, RESULTS, and everything necessary in order for you to carry out this procedure on yourself as well, if that is what you wish.

I will be expecting to receive the package, everywhere between 1-3 weeks, so bare with me.

Bye... (wave)
